The Nu Breed EP Vol.1
Donkey PunchWelcome to the first of two exciting EP’s dedicated purely to the ascending producers that we feel will be helping to shape tomorrow’s rave templates…welcome to the Nu Breed EPs.
Kevin Energy’s Relentless Vinyl is renowned for helping ascending producers on their career ladder and signing tracks on quality and individuality. Not the reputation of those making them. It was, after all, on Relentless where a certain Joey Riot coined his first major signing with the massive ‘Born Hardcore’. Cube:Hard aka Stargazer, Double Decka and Sean Apollo are other stars that received key Relentless exposure.
Now, we felt it was time to dedicate two EPs purely to today’s rising stars – mainly because we had five tracks of sheer rave euphoria sitting on our hard disks that simply needed to be pressed up – especially after four of them caused ripples of excitement through their appearance on Kevin’s Hardcore Heaven 3 CD. So the Nu Breed EP’s were born, a bold, bright and double pronged statement about the quality of rising talent in today’s scene… tomorrow’s music makers.
Comprised of DJ’s Mantra and Bubble and MC Scottie B, the Jellybeanz crew will be familiar to many through their illuminating DJ performances at HTID and their own Natural Born Ravers event. Cooking up a storm with their early productions, they here team up with the inimitable Gammer for a track that is both devastatingly fun and full of interesting head-twisting ideas.
Hitting all the right spots, ‘Donkey Punch’ pounds through a bouncy rave intro, smacks you clean with a ‘darkside’ jump up d’n’b drop before stopping to ask ‘Where’s the Love?’ as the massively catchy lead riff takes control. Fresh, fun and pure rave, ‘Donkey Punch’ is gleamed with Gammer’s unrivalled production finish and some choice rolling rave pianos. Not forgetting, the truly furious and frightening gabba section at the end… killer!
On the flip, is a track that has been causing ripples of excitement in the Nu Energy office for months, courtesy of D.L.S. aka Derek Moffat from The Dancelordz. When Kevin dropped this in Wales earlier in the year a certain DJ Hixxy flipped right round and belted ‘What the fuck is this?’. No surprise really… full of soaring melodies and spacey, tinkling bleeps, ‘Freefall’ is a track with a bit extra compared to the average hardcore trance romp. A truly musical arrangement that is full of originality, emotion and euphoria without the vaguest trace of Edam.
